[SRSB] Parents Ask Council for Support - The Casket
"It was a full house at Antigonish County Council’s monthly meeting last Tuesday thanks largely in part to two presentations about schools currently under review in the county.

Denise Delorey presented on behalf of Rev. H.J. MacDonald School in Heatherton, while Jennifer MacEachern presented on behalf of H.M. MacDonald Elementary School in Maryvale.

The impact reviews were ordered at the March 3 meeting of the Strait Regional School Board.

During her presentation, Delorey point out that costs at the school board’s central office have continued to increase while enrolment [sic] around the board decreases. "

St. Mary's Education Centre to Close - The Casket
"St. Mary’s Education Centre will be amalgamated with St. Mary’s Academy to create a Primary to Grade 12 school.

The decision was handed down Monday night at a special Strait Regional School Board meeting at the St. Mary’s Education Centre gym"

[SRSB] Board Orders Impact Assessment - The Casket
"Strait Regional School Board staff will prepare impact assessment reports on schools in Heatherton, Maryvale and Canso.

The reports on Rev. H.J. MacDonald School, H.M. MacDonald Elementary School and Canso Academy are part of the school review process and examine how a school closure might affect students, the board and the community.

'We were hoping it would end tonight, but obviously we’ll continue on with garnering community support,' H.M. MacDonald parent Patti Hansen-Ketchum said."

St. Mary's Education Centre Decision March 8 - The Casket
"The future of St. Mary’s Education Centre will be decided at a special meeting in the school gymnasium March 8 at 7 p.m.

The Strait Regional School Board voted to hold a special meeting in the community after public consultation attendees questioned the logistics of the school review process. According to the Education Act, public consultations are not question-and-answer sessions.

'It’s absolutely ridiculous that you’re not answering what we have to say,' Beth Tate said during the consultation held in the St. Mary’s Education Centre gym Feb 23. 'Show us what you’re going to do, and maybe we’re going to work together.'"

[SRSB] Identification Reports to be Presented Feb. 22 - The Casket
"The Strait Regional School Board will present identification reports on the Rev. H.J. MacDonald School in Heatherton, H.M. MacDonald Elementary School in Maryvale and Canso Academy at a special working committee meeting 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22 at the regional office in Port Hastings."

SRSB Orders Identification Reports - The Casket
"The Strait Regional School Board moved to prepare identification reports on three schools at its Jan. 6 meeting.  Reports will be prepared on Canso Academy, H.M. MacDonald School in Maryvale and Rev. H.J. MacDonald School in Heatherton. Identification reports help inform the board whether to initiate a school review."
