"Bill Estabrooks, Minister responsible for Conserve Nova Scotia, said $11.4-million in the 2010-11 budget for such improvements will make life more affordable by allowing schools across the province to cut operating costs and become more environmentally friendly. " - Government of NS Press Release

Mr. Estabrooks' statement seems to contradict the Identification Report prepared by SRSB Administration, for H.M. MacDonald School (Maryvale), which states that the $3.48M in allocated renovations approved and funded by the province of NS, will see "the addition and improvements in heating and ventilation systems will result in an estimated $37,500 increased operating costs"

Concerned Parents and Community Members from the Strait Region have always found it hard to understand how "improvements in heating and ventilation systems" will result in increases in operating costs.  Based on the recent NS government news release, it seems unlikely that the province's intent is to have these renovations result in increased operating costs for the SRSB.
